Hawaii Pacific University commissioned Toshiba to make an information kiosk for the Historic Aloha Tower campus, featuring Toshiba’s Vrituoso™ system. For this project, the client provided a basic mockup of the features layout for one screen, and I translated that into the final layout design, aligning and styling the content zones and providing new layouts for each subsequent section. A key feature of the kiosk was it’s mapping function, which involved creating layered vector maps of the campus and way-finding components. Each section had additional required interface elements and content modules to be incorporated, maintaining brand specifications throughout.

Description: This project was to showcase the full capabilities of Toshiba’s proprietary touch-screen interface software system as a platform and marketing channel. I was tasked with designing a distinct look and feel for nine different sections, each featuring a unique interaction modality. These sections covered different areas of Toshiba’s hardware and business services and together would be used as the flagship demonstration software for informational kiosk and digital signage clients.
For the EcoSmart section I illustrated a parallax scrolling environment to house the content at set anchor positions. The user could watch it scroll along like a video, scroll back and forth manually, or simply tap the icon of their choice at the landing page or along the interface footer.
Below is an early rendition of the design, based on a previous brand spec. Toshiba decided to move towards a different brand initiative and began phasing this particular look out of use. That halted all exploration with this style and we began again with new specifications. This gives a small sense of how different some stages of the design process can look before the final results are shipped.

Description: Toshiba’s Toner Products Division in Mitchell South Dakota needed an interactive information kiosk at their headquarters. This interface is based around the production of inks and toners for printing in the classic four process colors: Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, and Black. Additionally, graphical halftone elements are featured throughout the interface along with transparent ‘glass’ elements evoking photographic plates used in traditional printing prepress preparation.
